I know it sounds cliche, but where does the time go? I thought I would take this time to reflect on what I’ve: learned, regret, and am thankful for.
2022 Takeaway #1.
It’s taken me more time than I’d like to admit, but I think I’ve finally figured out the equation to life.
LIFE = MEMORIES + EXPERIENCES
There are no refunds. Don’t ask for the manager.
2022 Takeaway #2
There is nothing to be ashamed of if you did it with integrity and gave your best effort.
You can only control what you can control. At the beginning of the year, I was open and honest about the failure of Yonder. It was one of the hardest things I had to write.
What if I just tried for a few more months?
What if I just restarted the company?
What if someone else comes in and does it now?
What if…
But the one question I never have to ask myself is: what if I never tried?
I’ve always been open and honest. It’s what people love or hate about me. I’d have it no other way.
2022 Takeaway #3
You get out what you put in.
While my tenure as an adjunct professor was short-lived… (for now), it was some of my favorite time spent in 2022. I wanted to reshare my parting words with the students.
2022 Takeaway #4
Authenticity matters. People know when they are being sold a lemon.
The goal for 2023. Be present. Your network is your net worth. I must build better, deeper relationships with good people working on hard issues.
2022 Takeaway #5 (which i just takeaway #1)
Our time is finite; cash it in with the best exchange rate possible.
For many years I’ve gone a mile wide and a foot deep. I think it’s time now to flip that script. Foot wide, mile deep.
I have nervous anticipation for what the future holds. Nervous is good. Nervous means you care about the outcome. The goal is to ensure the lows don’t get too low, and the highs don’t get too high.
See you all next year; if you need me, hit me up, I would love to reconnect.
Cheers to nervous anticipation and cautious optimism in 2023.
Time to figure out my next goal… 2022 is wrapping up quickly.
Happy Holidays to everyone!
Proud of what I’ve accomplished in 2022 (I didn’t do it alone, don’t get me wrong).
taught 43 young adults at a major university
admitted to professional failure
raised $4.4M (with the best venture partners)
invested in 9 companies
started two podcasts (The Packcast and The Founder’s Cut)
made some new lifelong friendships and reinvested in some others
I also had a chance to jump on a few podcasts this year. You can hear about my new day gig here:
